What are you doing this summer?

I work within the SMB team, supporting Small and Medium businesses who work with Facebook.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I’d love to ultimately manage the product side of Facebook. I wanted to and still would like to work at Facebook because of how they truly uphold their values. Many companies claim to believe their mission statement, but at Facebook you can really notice that the people genuinely are bold, move fast, build social value, etc. It additionally was a match for my interests because even within the interview process I noticed how they really wanted me to succeed and were helpful with anything necessary. That’s the reason I chose Facebook over my other tech offers because the people want to help you grow and they invest in their interns with professional growth as well. It’s a company that wants to ensure everyone succeeds, and that’s really difficult to find.

How did you get your internship?

There was a Facebook recruiter who visited UChicago for engineering positions. I told her about my background, and she connected me with a different recruiter. That recruiter then told me to wait until a certain job was posted. Immediately when it was posted, I gave the recruiter my info, and I had an interview the next few days.

What do you wish you had known during your internship search?

I wish I had known to only apply to places/roles I’m really interested in because all other “safety” roles ended up taking a significant amount of time and were useless in the end.

What does a day in the life look like?

Yesterday, for example, my team of 4 people and I, along with my manager, went to a meeting in the morning. In the afternoon we had a team meeting for everyone to explain what they’ve been working on. Here at Facebook, the dress code is to dress the way you’d like because we embrace everyone’s personality. As long as it isn’t scandalous, you can wear it. As for food, Facebook has amazing chef’s who provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for us everyday. I haven’t gone grocery shopping once, and my refrigerator has literally nothing in it.

How has this job changed what you see yourself doing in the future?

I’ve learned to really like working in teams of people, so I definitely want to do something team-oriented.
